10:16 pm - Fire?
Was there a fire in the vicinity of Mariposa and 6th (or 5th?).

Around 9:30 I was looking out the window and saw a big wall of orange flames pop up above the buildings in the neighborhood. I had been watching neighborhood people setting off rockets and whatnot when they all started screaming and running down the street. I looked and saw a reasonably large flames and wondered what the heck was burning.

07:55 pm - I know that
I know that it's terribly unfashionable to say this without throwing in a bunch of disclaimers, but I really do love this country. I chose to be a citizen of the US when I was in 10th grade, and am as proud of my choice now as I was then.

Now I'll be joining the ranks of all the people who have posted this today:

And while I'm on the subject, I just love Sam's line at the end of this short scene:

Also, the antibiotics I'm taking for my root-canal have been making me very nauseous. Not fun.

04:23 pm - Gian and I do Vegas
Posting to get let other know what our tentative ideas are, get their tentative schedules, and see where we can make them mix!
Tentative schedule:

Date/Time
Thursday:
10 AM - Leaving Home
1 PM - 2 PM - Lunch at the Mad Greek in Baker
3:45 - Check in at Hotel
Onwards?

Friday:
Morning? No idea.
Afternoon? No idea.
7:30 PM - "Say Goodnight Gracie" at the Suncoast
Late night? No idea.

Saturday:
Morning, no idea.
1 PM - 6PM - Wedding/Reception
6 PM - 11 PM+ - Quarks and beyond

Sunday:
Morning/afternoon, don't know yet, would like to see if the Bride and Groom have plans.
7 PM - 9 PM Haufbrau House Dinner
10:30 PM - Zumanity (discounted cheap seat tickets $50) at New York New York

Sadness: They removed my High Roller Coaster from the Stratosphere in 2006
Gian has no fondness for "drop" rides so the Supreme Scream-like Big Shot is out.
Insanity looks like too much, even for me. While this does make me perversely want to do it for that reason, the body weight resting on and reliance on the harness is something Gian does not do.
X Scream is a giant see-saw, so you can look over the edge. This does not really impress me.

Stuff I kind of would like to do in Vegas
Food:
Mad Greek (en route)
Four Kegs Sports Pub (Calzone)
Haufbrau House
Buffet(s)

Shows:
Say Goodnight, Gracie
Zumanity

Free:
Bellagio Fountains
Freemont Street Experience
Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden
Centaur Art Gallery

Cheap:
Gondola ride at the Venitian

Pricey:
Zumanity
Star Trek Experience (This is TOO expensive and is probably off the list)

For my nearest and dearest who will be there, thoughts, feelings, input, or adjustments?

04:41 am - What do you do when someone abandons a Dog on your property?
***Edit****

Livejournal FTW

She's been adopted by a loving family from the West Side. They brought their alpha female and they got along swell.

Unless something goes horribly, horribly wrong, She's found her new home.

Thank you so much for the outpouring of support- it's goddamn amazing it what it is..

Original post follows...

***End Edit****

Well- if you are a dog person, you take her to get fixed, get her shots and call everyone and every rescue group you know to see who would like an adorable ten month old puppy.

*Cross-posted like crazy- please repost in any place you feel is appropriate*

That being said- here is the story:

About ten days ago- between the hours of 6pm and10pm, someone tied this puppy

to a tree at the curb in front of my house in Reseda. When my girlfriend went out to her car later that night, she thought there was a strange dog weaving around behind her car.

I went out front with a flashlight and sure enough, there was.

But she wasn't weaving because she was sick, she was desperately trying to hide behind a car and the curb, and she couldn't get away because she was abandoned, choke-chained and wired to the tree with about six feet of chain and heavy gauge wire

She was scared, she was submissive and she was dirty from hiding in the street.

We disconnected her from the tree and used calm and soothing tones to get her in to the yard, on to the porch, in to the house and eventually in to a crate. We fed her, watered her, bathed her, flea treated her and yesterday went to a vet and got her spayed.

She gets along fabulously with my other dog and he's old and somewhat cranky (as am I upon occasion). She's a total sweetheart. She just wants to be around people. She's got her nose in my feet right now. She snuggly and happy and knows "Sit". She is a really sweet nice dog.

I can't have another dog. I just can't. It's not fair to my room mates and frankly, one dog is enough for me.

Someone took this sweet puppy and abandoned her. I would like to find her a home. I've called about 20 rescues and no one has room. The attitude seems to be if she's not in the pound about to die, they don't want to hear about it.

So- if you or someone you know is looking for a housebroken, sweet 40 pound girl puppy (that's been spayed and vaccinated) that is about ten months old and is not expected to get any bigger, please reply here or contact me at my email address

If you also know of a rescue that has room or of a nice no-kill shelter in Los Angeles (and I MEAN no Kill, part and parcel to being a dog person is that I will not send her in to a situation where she might get put down or worse, thrown in to a dog fight as bait- *shudder*), please also send me any links or information here.

They can also call my cell at 818 825 4250.

I'm in the Valley and there is someone home most of the time so you can meet her.

12:45 pm - Where to live??
Hey everyone! This is my first post here. I am planning to move to LA with a friend in September.

The thing is, we are both actresses and want to live in an area that's very convenient for auditions, but still a safe area to live in.

I'm desperately in need of suggestions!! I've heard Studio City and Silverlake are good areas...but please help!

Thanks!

I just changed my own headlights. It wasn't all that hard, but my fingernails are black underneath and I feel like a badass.

Now I no longer have to live in fear of being pulled over for having a headlight out by bored cops.

I Refuse To Let Some Beached Whale Ruin Our Family Outing

Joshua! Kylie! Help your father and me unload the minivan. You can take care of the lighter things, like the mini-cooler and the badminton net. Daddy will carry the poles. Take your beach towels, too, and don't forget that Ziploc bag with the sunscreen. I don't want you kids getting sunburns. They say the worst skin damage occurs when you're young. Joshua? Kylie? Why are you still in the van? You haven't even unbuckled your seatbelts. Let's go!

What? Well, I suppose that's a beached whale over there. Of course I see it. So what? What is there to be afraid of? It's dead. Oh, will you stop. We're not going to a different beach. What? Now, look, Eric, don't take the children's side. They're clearly being unreasonable. You saw the traffic on that interstate. We planned this outing weeks ago, and we've all been looking forward to it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, y'all. Billy clearly won:

To think... I could have been a septic abortion!!

Mom thought it was funny, too.

05:24 pm - Miner Update.
I am still alive, I've just been laying low. High gas prices and stuff have been keeping the man down. Some things that are of notice:

1. Bush's Grilling Beans are made to spice up any barbeque!

2. It is nice to live in a place where most things are within walking distance. I have driven my car a total of two times this week. Both times were to go to the bank. I have been taking a walk after dinner every night this week. It has been bueno. Hopefully the fish will start jumping again in the bay.

3. Carm's Coneys on 17th and Irvine has really great food, awesome sweet potato fries, and $2 Firestone Honey Blond (12 oz), which has made it one of my favorite summer hangouts thus far. They love the Dodgers!

4. LSAT October 4th. I am taking 2 LSAT courses this summer: Test(es)masters Tuesdays/Fridays 10-2 PM, and Scoreitup starting in August. I had trouble with this decision, but am rolling the dice and hoping that the investment pays off, as it will help with me make that decision on where I end up for Law School.

5. Favorite new shows: Psych and Burn Notice. Psych has a lot of awesome obscure 80s references, and inside jokes that slay me. BUT, Burn Notice has BRUCE CAMPBELL! Not XENA era BRUCE CAMPBELL, but a mix of Evil Dead and older dude Bruce Campbell.

6. Chicago baseball teams.
